Cleanliness And Hygiene For A Safe Home

A home should be a haven. It is a place where you and your family are secure from lawless people, harmful and hazardous situations, and safe from disease-causing germs. The popular saying goes, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness,” which speaks volumes of the virtues of cleanliness. Here are some effective ways to maintain a high level of cleanliness and good hygiene for a safe home.

Keep Your House Dust-Free

A dusty home creates a breeding ground for germs. It is also a trigger for allergies of all kinds, from skin asthmas to rhinitis. Surfaces, walls, and stuff should be dusted once a week for optimal cleanliness. Perhaps even twice during summer months or if you live in a particularly dusty environment. Make sure to also clean fans and blowers at least once a week.

Vacuum Carpeted Areas

Speaking of dust, carpets are particular magnets where it can build-up. Vacuum high-traffic areas at least thrice a week. Your rugs will smell and look nicer.  Area rugs should be brought out and get good cleaning outdoors. Carpets are notorious for harboring pet hair and other tiny particles. Wear a dust mask when you do this for your protection.

Maintain A Clean Kitchen

The kitchen is where you cook and prepare food, so proper cleanliness cannot be overstated here. Always wipe the countertops, sink, stove, and work areas after use.  Make it a habit to mop and sweep the kitchen floor. Use a natural disinfectant mixed in water instead of toxic chemicals. Vinegar is a good choice. Make it a regular practice to also clean and clear drains since these are breeding areas for bacteria. Also, change your kitchen towels once they get soiled.

Always Have Clean Bedrooms

Always remember to do your bed, and tell every household member to make it a habit. Also, maintain sheets, blankets and pillow covers free from dust mites, and endeavor to change them every week. This is also another breeding ground for germs, and when someone gets any kind of bug, it is best to change everything to a clean set for good measure.

Maintain Spick And Span Bathrooms

Cleanliness must be emphasized in the bathroom because it is an environment that germs love. Make sure that proper ventilation is always maintained.  Always mop the floor daily using a natural disinfectant, and clean the sink, toilet bowl, and seat. Check the drains that they are not clogged, and if you have a tub, also disinfect it regularly. Encourage everyone to also maintain good toothbrushes, changing them regularly or after has a bout of illness.  Towels should also be changed after every other use in a bath.

These will be life skills that your kids can pass on to their children. You and your family will enjoy spending more time at home if it is a clean and inviting environment.
